WAL-MART QUIERE A WONG
(Peru.com: 2007/6/25) Wal-Mart, la cadena de supermercados más grande del mundo, habría superado las ofertas que las empresas chilenas Falabella, Ripley y Cencosud realizaron para adquirir la exitosa cadena peruana Wong.
Según informó el suplemento 'Día 1' del diario 'El Comercio', hasta hace unas semanas la oferta más atractiva por la cadena de supermercados peruanos la había realizado el Grupo Falabella, dejando atrás a sus competidores.
Sin embargo, cuando las cosas parecían ya decididas, apareció en escena el gigante estadounidense Wal-Mart, con miles de tiendas alrededor del mundo, que habría ofrecido a la familia Wong una jugosa oferta superior en más de US$ 150 millones a la de Falabella.
Asimismo, según 'Día 1', el ofrecimiento de los norteamericanos incluiría que los Wong mantengan el 20% del control de la empresa. De esta manera se asegurarían el 'know-how' de la cadena peruana en el negocio.
Todo indica que la estabilidad económica y el crecimiento de la penetración del rubro de los centros comerciales, además de la descentralización a provincias, habrían animado a Wal-Mart a entrar al mercado peruano, el cual vigilaban desde hace años.
Se señala, además, que un punto a favor de Wal-Mart es su nacionalidad, pues lo que preocupaba a los Wong era trabajar en sociedad con retailers chilenos, toda vez que los dueños de la cadena siempre se jactaron de ser "100% peruanos", a diferencia de su competencia.
